Cristina Amaya | Latinx in Gaming & DreamHack
Can you explain a little more about DreamHack and Latinx in Gaming?
Think of DreamHack as a celebration of everything gaming. From the industry side, to the making of games, to competitions. My role at DreamHack is to help bring some of the cool pieces to life and create touchpoints outside of the traditional gaming and esports pieces. I've focused on the Artist Alley & some other cool touchpoints. If you're near San Diego, hit me up for a ticket!
For Latinx in Gaming, we really believe that EVERYBODY deserves a seat at the table, and the Latinx community is no different. We believe that folks deserve careers in the industry whether as content creators, engineers, marketers, creating their own art or their own games. No career is off limits and we want to make sure they have the ability to be seen and heard. We believe that the Latinx community is full of diverse stories that should be told.
What is some advice you'd give women and young girls wanting to do what you do for the industry?
You are not alone and if you feel something is off, there's a ton of women and allies within the industry willing to help provide guidance. Don't settle for strange behavior from managers, from pay that doesn't feel good. There's incredible women focused networks, mentors & professionals who can give you guidance. Even if it's daunting, it's okay to be nervous but make connections that make you feel safe.
